My all time favourite films

Let me preface this list by stating these are my 10 favourite movies of all time. Not the greatest films of all time. I’m one of those nutters who can watch the same movie a ridiculous number of times. Some of these have been viewed over 25 times and I never get tired of them. That’s how you now you absolutely love a movie. Forget the critics and let me know what movies you want to watch again and again. The guiltier the pleasure, the better…

The Godfather (1972) - Arguably the greatest movie ever made. Everything from the writing, direction, acting, editing, cinematography, music… it’s all… sublime.

Braveheart (1995) - From the story, to the music and everything in between, I think this is a damn near perfect film. I laugh, weep like a baby, and hit most every other emotional cue while watching this one.

One Flew Over The Cookoo’s Nest (1975) - It’s simple and it’s brilliant. A bunch of nuts played to perfection and you can’t get enough of them. This movie grabs hold of you and never lets go.

Inglorious Basterds (2009) - Such a marvel of fantasy. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this imaginary world featuring one of the greatest acting performances I’ve ever seen (Christoph Waltz). Easily my favourite Tarantino film.

Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) - Hands down, the greatest trilogy in movie history. There has never been an undertaking the likes of which Peter Jackson and Co. went through to bring Tolkien’s work to the big screen. Personally, I consider it one 11 hour journey through Middle Earth, but that’s only if you have access to the brilliant extended edition.

Forrest Gump (1994) - One of the most endearing characters played by one of the greatest actors. There’s a magic in this movie that touches you when you watch it. Phenomenal film.

Se7en (1995) - In my opinion, this is Fincher’s finest film. Incredibly written, acted and directed in it’s disturbing honesty to human nature.

Unforgiven (1992) - My favourite Western and Clint Eastwood film. How about that! Such a well told story that takes you far beyond the usual gun-slinging adventures of the Old West.

Dumb and Dumber (1994) - Yes, many of you will laugh and say, “REALLY?”, but there is no other movie to date that has made me laugh more. Enough said!

The Incredibles (2004) - I love animated films and this narrowly wins as my favourite title in this genre. Part of the brilliance rests in the family dynamic which takes centre stage amongst the incredibly entertaining action.
